Makalali Private Game Lodge

Makalali Private Game Lodge supports the following projects coordinated and planned by The Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve.

Project #1

Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage, a registered non-profit company, is located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, neighbouring the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve.

Every Monday, Daktari welcomes a new group of eight local underprivileged children and one youth as a local volunteer for a week and gives them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife, conservation and their heritage.

The children also visit Makalali Private Game Lodge where they go on a game drive and a tour of the lodge (many children have never seen wild animals in their natural environment). They learn about the many opportunities that ecotourism ventures, and ultimately the protection and conservation of their natural heritage (i. e. the wildlife) can offer.

Initiatives Supported

All the needs are current as of September 25, 2016

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
