Chitende High School was established in January 2004 to serve a population of more than 6,000 pupils from seven schools in our area on the Lower Zambezi (namely Gota Gota, Malabanyika, Chisakila, Kabwandu, Chiawa, Mugurameno, and Kanyangala Basic Schools). The school caters to 230 boys and girls with 196 in boarding coming from various villages.
Because of a lack of space, the school has to turn away over 90 students each year who qualify for high school because of a shortage of classroom space. These are students with excellent grades, students who should have the right to more than just basic education, and students who want to enter high school.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
