Facts about Jamaica
Jamaica is a popular vacation destination in the Caribbean because it is so different from the rest of the islands. This beautiful land filled with sun, sand, and beach-side resorts offers visitors the opportunity to indulge in the island's unique cultural heritage. Unlike the rest of the area, Jamaica has a distinct African flare that charms tourists and travelers on their trips abroad. Jamaica also boasts of some of the world's best coffee, impressive reefs perfect for diving, and miles of beaches. Adventure vacationers interested in responsible tourism can also experience bush-medicine hiking tours, view untouched waterfalls and pools, and explore wetland homes of endangered manatees and crocodiles. When packing for a vacation in Jamaica, tourists can make a difference by planning to donate to one of the non-profit groups in the Caribbean.
One of the major groups in Jamaica that accepts the support of tourists is the Sandals Foundation. This organization works to support 26 schools in the area. The Sandals Foundation works to provide support, teacher training, instructional needs, and donated school supplies to local education facilities; the supplies include pencils and art supplies, flash cards, exercise books, and more. This group also works to provide donated sports equipment to these schools.
