The Center for Education and Nutrition (known as CEN) at Horquetas de SarapiquÃ consists of four service programs for the inhabitants of the area: Care and Child Protection, Served Meals, Milk Program and Daily Food to local families.
The program of Care and Child Protection supports 40 families with parents working outside their homes – most of them with a difficult economical situations – and unable to afford daycare. The children are at preschool level (3 through 6 years old). It provides daily meals and a comprehensive education of the children so they can strengthen their different areas of development.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
