The Akinta Children Library is an initiative developed by Tropic. The library will serve the children of the community and provide them with books to engage them and increase their reading skills. All guests visiting Huaorani Ecolodge have the opportunity to interact with local children and help build these small libraries.
Tropic was founded in Quito, Ecuador in 1994, to demonstrate that environmentally sustainable and culturally sensitive tourism could be a viable business model. Tropic set out to do this by pioneering indigenous community tourism with the Huaorani people of the Amazon.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
