Project #1

The Lewa Education Programme (LEP) supports nine government schools in the surrounding communities and manages three community schools in the Il N'gwesi region to the north. The aim of the LEP is to provide local children with educational opportunities, and to build awareness of wildlife conservation in Kenya. Their holistic approach covers every aspect to offer the best possible education: infrastructure, curriculum including conservation education, a feeding programme, bursaries, and adult literacy.

Needs

Pens, pencils, paper, crayons, reading books, various wall charts and maps, erasers, solar calculators, learning games (i.e. Scrabble, Connect Four, dominos, Bananagrams, etc.), deflated soccer balls, manipulatives for teaching that are hands on for the children (for example, blocks, legos, puzzles, etc.).

Project #2

The Lewa Health Care Programme is a vital part of their Community Development outreach. Lewa manages three clinics in the region, serving thousands of individual who would otherwise have no access to health care. The year 2009 witnessed a growth of the Lewa Health Care Programme. The number of clinics under Lewa's operation increased from two to three with the re-opening of the Ngare Ndare clinic on the western side of the Conservancy. The Lewa, Leparua and Ngare Ndare clinics served the staff and communities in a professional manner under the guidance of Dr. Abid Butt, the Lewa consulting doctor.

Needs

Stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs for the two new clinics, dressing materials (sterile gauze and bandages), digital thermometers, blood sugar machines and strips, pregnancy kits, malaria kits, and autoscopes.
