    Project #1

Uyoba Primary School serves 650 children from ages 6 through 14 years old.

    Project #2

South Luangwa Conservation Society is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to the conservation and preservation of the local wildlife and natural resources in Luangwa, while at the same time ensuring and encouraging community development amongst local populations.

It was set up in 2003 and relies entirely on donations from members and grant applications. Programs include Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Conservation Education, Human Wildlife Conflict, and Law Enforcement.

    Project #3

Chipembele Wildlife Education Center is a fun, interactive, and contemporary learning facility for Zambian children which serves 1,000 children each year and 1,000 more children in the valley are served through their outreach programs. It focuses its programs on wildlife, the environment, and conservation issues.

This education will help to both protect the wildlife and generate sustainable development for the benefit of the local population for generations to come, through employment in the tourism and wildlife protection organizations established in the South Luangwa Valley.

Other projects include a pupil sponsorship scheme (in which approximately 100 orphaned or vulnerable children are sponsored each year), the improvement of the school infrastructure, local community initiatives, and fully-accredited wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs.

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
