    If you are choosing to Pack for a Purpose and bring supplies for the projects listed on this page, it is essential that you contact your tour provider or safari camp. They can provide you with the important changes to the customs regulations currently in place in Botswana. These changes may impact your donation process. At Pack for a Purpose, we want to ensure that your experience is as pleasant as possible, as we are grateful for your generous hearts and the desire to give back to the communities you visit.

    If you would prefer us to source some of the items locally, you are able to make a secure online payment on our website - www.bushwaysfoundation.com. Then email foundation@bushways.com indicating what items you would like to us to use the funds for, and we will purchase them on your behalf.
    Pack for a Purpose does not condone visiting orphanages, as this can often lead to negative impacts on children. The accommodation or tour company working with the orphanage will deliver the supplies in a coordinated and respectful way so that the children can benefit from them. Your generosity is not diminished because you do not interact with the children.

    Project #1

    Bana Ba Letsatsi provides critical care for vulnerable children and orphans facing a variety of issues such as neglect or abuse. The center provides education, daily meals, clothes, transport, medical care, stationery, and toiletries for up to 250 children. Safari Destinations has partnered with the center for over ten years, providing money for counsellor salaries as well as a bus. For those travelling to Botswana and wanting to make these children feel special, supplies from our needs list would be greatly appreciated.

    Project #2

    In the beautiful haven of Khwai Village, the Foundation has commenced building a pre-school set to educate approximately 40 children from ages 2 through 6 years old from this hearty community. Currently, together with LAMB International and Naletsana Trust, efforts to sustain this education hub will see continuous drive by the Foundation to create the well needed awareness for the cause.

    Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.

    Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

    Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
