    Nkwichi Lodge

    Project #1

The Girls’ Boarding House in Cobue accommodates the area’s most disadvantaged yet talented young women and encourages much-needed educational development for young women from remote villages who would not otherwise have access to secondary education.

    Project #2

The Maternity Clinic is the first and only of its kind in the whole Manda Wilderness area. Since it opened in 2008, this health facility has significantly improved the well-being of the most vulnerable people in this very remote corner of Northern Mozambique.

    Project #3

Manda Wilderness Community Trust is supporting eleven primary schools. Many children in the Manda Wilderness area do not complete their primary education as a result of socio-economic factors such as compromised educational facilities and lack of school supplies.

    Project #4

The Manda Wilderness Agricultural Project has become an exceptional demonstration farm applying organic farming methods and serving as an educational centre for surrounding villages to train farmers in agricultural techniques.

MWAP also carries out training in biodiversity-friendly agricultural and agroforestry methods in individual villages and recently started to implement educational gardens at schools, where children learn about nutrition, farming and environment. In an area where subsistence farming is virtually the only means of survival, seeds are one of the most needed items and also the most requested from these farmers and the schools.

    Initiatives Supported

All the needs are current as of March 5, 2021
Note: Location is approximated. If you see a lodging that is misplaced or missing, please contact us .

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
