The BIG FIX Uganda has programs in veterinary service, animal welfare education, and animal assisted interventions. We run the only veterinary hospital in Northern Uganda and provide services in the villages including rabies vaccination, de-worming, spay/neuter, and treatment of wounds and injuries. To date, we have treated more than 60,000 animals. We operate The Comfort Dog Project, which pairs war trauma survivors suffering from PTSD with companion dogs, a program which has demonstrated efficacy in reducing PTSD symptom severity.

The BIG FIX Uganda administers 6 Animal Kindness Clubs at primary schools which carry out a specified program aimed at promoting compassion for all living beings and protection of the environment. The program uses debate, drama, art, community outreach, and special events to raise awareness in the community. Our school outreach involves taking our training team to primary schools and providing education about animal health and welfare, the importance of good human-animal bonds, and the prohibition against animal cruelty. Tree planting and rubbish pick up are also emphasized.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
