    Many of these supplies can also be purchased inexpensively locally, so if you would like to buy local then please contact ian.macallan@projectluangwa.org. In addition Project Luangwa also make washable menstrual hygiene pads (Ufulu) for girls, helping them to stay in school. These can also be purchased locally. Thank you so much for your support.

    Shenton Safaris is a proud supporter of Project Luangwa, an educational charity that works to increase the standards of education in South Luangwa.

    With the support of the local safari camps, Project Luangwa builds school infrastructure, sinks boreholes for clean drinking water, provides textbooks, supports children through sponsorship, funds tree-planting schemes at schools, and more.

    Needs

    General School Supplies:
    A4 Lined Paper, Bio Type Pens, HB Pencils, Pencils Cases, Pencils for Geometric Drawing (H Pencils), and Maths Sets (Includes: Eraser, Metal Compass, Pencil/Pencil Sharpener, Protractor, Ruler, Stencil, and Two Set Squares)

    Reference Materials:
    (English) Age Appropriate Encyclopedia on CD and Dictionaries

    Art Supplies for Artist Initiatives and Community Produced Projects:
    Machine Sewing Thread, Sewing Machine Needles, Quality Fabric Scissors, and Quality Furnishing Fabric (Can be as small as 50cmx50cm)

    Sports/Outdoor Activity:
    Footballs, Netballs, and Pumps

    Health/Personal Grooming:
    Reading Glasses of Assorted Strengths, Sanitizers, Ufulu Pads (for Girls), and Washable Facemasks

    Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.

    Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

    Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
