Please note that you may be asked to pay duty on donations brought with you as you go through customs entering Belize, since anything brought in that is not for personal use is subject to duty (yes, even donations). The Ministry of Finance *may* provide a duty-free letter for donations brought for a school, but it can take 2 months or longer to get such a letter so please plan ahead if you'd like to request a duty-free letter. Alternatively, you can purchase one or more of the needs list items in Belize; in San Pedro there is a pet store and a variety store which carry some of the items on the lists. Please contact Barbara Smalley at info@Vacation-Rentals-Belize.com with any questions. Thank you!

    Project #1

The Saga Humane Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, dedicated to preventing cruelty and replacing it with kindness to all animals. They provide medical care and shelter to animals in need and subsidizing veterinary care to low income families.

The Saga Humane Society conducts ongoing spay/neuter and vaccination campaigns, animal adoption, and public education programs. They hope to build a permanent animal clinic/education center in Ambergris Caye, Belize.

    Project #2

Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) is a privately run non-profit school serving 116 students in San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye. ACES focuses on quality education by providing a low student to teacher ratio, interventions, remedial help and extracurricular activities.
The school believes in inclusion & accommodating diverse learners, so uses a lot of visuals, manipulatives & other materials in class for all students. There are a large number of students on scholarship for whom the school also collects basic needs.

    Initiatives Supported

All the needs are current as of October 14, 2021
Note: Location is approximated. If you see a lodging that is misplaced or missing, please contact us .

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
