The Riberenos School project provides better education and needed clothing to 90 children ages 3 through 10 years old who live in the remote riverside communities of Puerto Miguel, San Francisco and Amazonas in the Amazon Rainforest of northern Peru.
Access to education is hard to come by in the region, and the few schools operating have limited funding and support. Any supplies that you bring will directly contribute to increasing essential literacy and math levels of the local children.
General School Supplies:
Abacuses, Colored Pencils, Coloring Books, Crayons, Erasers, Handheld Pencil Sharpeners, Pencils, and Solar Calculators
(English and Spanish) *Alphabet, *Math, and *Word
Checkers, Chess Sets, Connect Four, and Playing Cards
Soccer Balls, Volleyballs, and Volleyball Nets
Flip-Flops, Sandals, and T-Shirts
*Toothbrushes and *Toothpaste
Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
