Reality Gives is a community-centered education nonprofit founded in Mumbai’s Dharavi (one of Asia’s largest slums and home to over a million people) and since 2016 have also been active in Sanjay Colony, Okhla, a slum community in New Delhi. We envision a world where underprivileged communities have equitable access to opportunities and resources and believe education is the most powerful tool people can use to break the cycle of poverty.
Through our programs, Reality Gives has reached over 9000 children and young adults since 2009.
Comprising of English, Computer Classes and Special Activities, we deliver our Youth Program in community centers in Mumbai and New Delhi. It is aimed at participants aged over 16 years old and together serves 700 students annually.
Our School Program focuses on primary education, from Preschool to Grade 4 in a school in Dharavi, Mumbai, where with 26 teachers, trained from the local community we provide holistic education to over 450 students.

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.
Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
