In December 2009, we founded Pack for a Purpose with the mission to positively impact communities around the world by assisting travelers who want to take meaningful contributions to the destinations they visit.
Fast forward nearly ten years and Pack for a Purpose has helped travelers donate nearly 350,000 pounds of supplies meeting essential needs in over 60 different countries. To give you context, that’s almost as many donated supplies as the weight of a blue whale (the largest mammal on earth!) or two space shuttles or the weight of roughly 95 cars!
How were we able to make such a big impact across the globe? It all started with the idea of “Small Space. Little Effort. Big Impact.”
By taking on the logistical challenges, like curating lists of needed supplies and where to drop off donations, all we had to ask of travelers is to pack five pounds of supplies, which allows for 400 pencils or five deflated soccer balls for a school or an orphanage. For the same weight, travelers can bring a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and 500 band-aids for a clinic.
It would take only a small space, require little effort and still make a big impact.
In order to make donating as simple as possible for travelers, our founder, Rebecca (along with gracious volunteers) has taken on the mammoth of responsibilities involved with managing logistics with hundreds of community projects supporting education, health, child welfare, animal welfare, and socio-economic development.
Rebecca hoped by her 70th birthday, this year, Pack for a Purpose would become a truly fiscally sustainable organization. As it stands now, that’s unfortunately not the case.
We’re counting on our supporters to help us raise donations so we can hire two full-time employees to manage the website and expand our outreach. Please join us in making this a reality – not only for Rebecca but also for the hundreds of community projects across the globe.
