The School of the 5th Congress serves around 70 children from ages 3 to 5 years old. The children are from very poor families in the 5th Congress neighborhood which is located 6 km from the hotel.
While the government of Mozambique has recognized the importance of early childhood development, the ability to finance is very limited due to still prevailing budget constraints. Instead, the Government relies on partners from civil society and private sector to fill the gap.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
