    Project

Baraa Primary School is a government primary school in the Moshono area of Arusha, located within walking distance of Machweo. Together with the iThemba Foundation, Machweo believes in supporting the communities’ development through raising its academic standards.

The school serves almost 2000 students, from ages 5 through 18 years old (the older students are part of the school’s MEMKWA programme for those who were never offered an education or those who had to drop out of school at a young age for a myriad of reasons). Baraa Primary School runs a full program of extracurricular classes such as dance, drumming and singing, arts and crafts and sports. We have volunteer teachers from around the world working within all of our departments as well as Baraa’s unique SEN (Special Educational Needs students) unit.

    Initiatives Supported

All the needs are current as of September 18, 2020

Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them.

Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
    • Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
    • The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.

Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
