As our sixth year begins for Pack for a Purpose, I am filled with gratitude for the thousands of kilos of supplies Pack for a Purpose travelers have taken for community projects across the globe!
I am also grateful for the thousands and thousands of hours our talented and committed volunteers have contributed to make Pack for a Purpose a brand that is trusted, innovative, and successful. Our volunteers are diverse, ranging in age from 17 to 73 and include women and men from many ethnic backgrounds. What they all have in common is a commitment to our mission, a willingness to give their time and talents, and caring, generous hearts. It goes without saying they all enjoy my homemade, hot-out-of-the-oven chocolate mint chip cookies.
When founding a nonprofit, it helps to have wonderful friends who support your ideas and encourage you. It also helps if your friends include a lawyer and a CPA.
I believe Pack for a Purpose is an example of how ordinary individuals can create meaningful contributions in the world. All that is required is passion, persistence, and positivity. This belief has been affirmed by the enthusiastic and overwhelming response from travelers who Packed for a Purpose and the communities that benefitted by participating in Pack for a Purpose. The media in all its forms – from bloggers to syndicated radio shows, to print magazines and digital publications – has been very assistful in helping us spread the word. From the eastern hemisphere to the western hemisphere, the media’s coverage has inspired travelers to participate. We hope to inspire even more media coverage in 2016.
Our goals for 2016 include the following:
(1) inspiring more travelers to Pack for a Purpose;
(2) increasing the number of participants;
(3) having participants in additional countries;
(4) multiplying the number of kilos taken by Pack for a Purpose travelers; and
(5) encouraging more brides and grooms, business travelers, and university programs to Pack for a Purpose.
