Nakia’s Story

Several members of my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, headed to Playa del Carmen to celebrate our anniversary of pledging together. Sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter, commit to a lifetime of Service, Scholarship and Sisterhood. With service being a key tenet of the organization, our group knew we wanted to incorporate a way to give back on our trip. Pack for a Purpose provided the perfect mechanism for identifying local organizations in need, and an easy way to collect and donate those items, all without causing us to skip a beat on our vacation.

Our group of 31 women collected over 200 school supplies and personal care items for donation to Xyaat, a local organization that supports Mayan communities and promotes Mayan culture in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico. While we were not staying at Sandos Playacar, which supports Xyaat, it was a short taxi ride over from our accommodation which made dropping of the supplies at Sandos easy.

We are happy to contribute to such an amazing organization. Knowing that our donations will help young people, even just a little, helped make our anniversary vacation even more meaningful.
