Zohaib’s Story

Hi, I am Zohaib, I am 9 years old, and I traveled to Jamaica in February 2022. Two of my favorite things to do is to travel and to help other people and I thought pack for a purpose was the perfect opportunity for me to do both.

On my trip to Jamaica, I was able to bring two suitcases full of needed supplies for the Barrett School in Montego Bay.

I chose to focus on bringing art supplies such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, coloring books, paints, paint brushes, and palette trays. Art is so important to learning, and me and my baby sister wanted other children to share in this creative method of expression.

I also collected a suitcase full of elementary age books so students can enjoy new books while getting to practice reading more.

Lastly, I bought learning and strategy games that the students requested such as scrabble, uno, chess, parcheesi, tic-tac-toe, a sports science kit and jigsaw puzzles. I too love these games and believe they are a great way to sharpen our minds when us kids need a break from schoolwork.

For the school teachers, I brought some of my care kits filled with PPE and first aid supplies such as bandages and antibiotic ointments.

It was a great experience to go to the actual school with Ms. Kameil (the coordinator at our resort Half Moon) and meet the Principal who allowed us to visit every classroom and say hello to all the children.  It made me very happy to see the children because I saw they wanted and needed these items for school.  It was much different than my school back home. The people of Jamaica are so welcoming and I hope to bring more items if I am lucky enough to return. Ya Mon!
