3 Rivers Eco Lodge
Project #1
Our Eco Lodge aims to provide books, and other education materials to our nearby government schools, The Morne Jaune Primary School and The Grand Fond Preschool and Primary School, and the less fortunate children in our local community. These schools serve around 200 children.
The headteacher of the school has come up with an ingenious educational way of distributing the Pack for a Purpose donations. All donations are given a points value; and children earn points based on work and behavior. They can choose to use their points immediately for low value items, or save for higher value goods. This teaches them how to budget and save, as well as learning to appreciate your generous donations.
Project #2
Our Eco Lodge also supports the Castle Bruce Secondary School which is the nearest secondary school for children graduating from our local village Grand Fond School. It is located on the south east region of the island. The school serves 500 children from ages 11 through 16 years old.
Project #3
3 Rivers Eco Lodge supports the Grand Fond Village school library and aims to provide as many books as possible both for the children and the adults in the village.
Initiatives Supported
Listed on this page are the specific needs requested by the community project(s) so you can choose exactly what to pack for a purpose and express your gratitude to the local community with the supplies you take them. If you prefer, you may reach out directly to them to inquire about items which may be available for purchase locally. Arranging visits to community projects is beyond the scope of our mission. If you wish to visit a project, contact the participant and they can let you know what is possible.
Candy and balloons are not on the needs list as they are harmful for the children and the environment for the following reasons:
• Few of the children benefiting from these projects have access to toothpaste, toothbrushes, or a dentist. The candy promotes cavities.
• The balloons once they become deflated are a choking hazard for local wildlife.
Instead of taking candy or balloons, use that space for additional requested supplies, as they are priceless.
