A Thank-You From Kwa Maritane

Children at Borite Primary School with supplies

I am always blown away by the generosity of travelers, and again we have received an incredible outpour of love for the children at Borite Primary School in South Africa. An unbelievable 36.6 kg of medical supplies, reading material, clothes, stationery and sporting equipment have been donated in the past few months.

These children don’t want much, only a fair chance to learn so that they one day will be doctors, lawyers and maybe even the president. Through the ongoing support we are receiving from travelers, this may just be possible.

Boy reading book

While all donations, no matter how big or small, are always greatly appreciated, my letter today goes out to one tremendous family that stayed at Kwa Maritane recently. Not only did they bring items they purchased, but they also enlisted the help of their whole family and friends to make a donation. Each family member wrote the children a short note and attached it to the gifts.

So today we would like to send out a big thank you to Noela, Ilma and the entire Leka Family. You will never know what a tremendous help and inspiration you have been in these children’s lives. Your encouraging messages bring hope for a better life. The words “thank you” don’t seem to be enough.

On June 24, I went through to Borite Primary School to deliver the donations we had received through the Pack for a Purpose initiative. With all of the generosity that our guests have shown over the last few months, I left with a glow of happiness and a rejuvenated faith in the world that given time, we will all have equal opportunity and poverty may become a thing of the past. One thing is for sure: I am a richer person for this experience and the ever-giving travelers.
